Ashington and Blyth town centres are at different stages of regeneration, development and change. The process of Masterplanning is commonly used by regeneration departments and agencies to plan long term change and capital development for places and spaces. This Inspire project offers an opportunity for an artist led vision for the future that can help people to think about Blyth and Ashington in new ways.

Inspire Northumberland commissioned 4 artists to each create an image of Blyth and Ashington in 2027 which focuses on new and creative ideas for architecture and the public realm. It is anticipated that an artist led visioning exercise may highlight the issues, challenges, solutions and surprising ideas which are not normally captured within a formal masterplanning process focused on physical regeneration. The artworks will be used for exhibition, promotion and communication to stimulate debate and encourage people to value their towns. It will assist local authorities in demonstrating ambition to masterplanning teams and new developers that will be involved in the development of Ashington and Blyth town centres.

The artists selected were: Gayle Chong Kwan, Adam Pointer, Lindsay Duncanson and Sara Ogilvie.
